Home for the summer
"Ah! There is nothing like staying home for real comfort"
- Jane Austin
We are officially on the first day of summer! Yay.
I just got back from my parents house in the Central Valley where it is was over 100 degrees. The summer heat is very real down there(where I live in the Bay Area it is only kind of real). I cannot tolerate that heat like I used to, but I still love it (mostly) and it really does signify home to me. At my parents' house in the summer some pretty basic things become a thrill. Like popsicles, air conditioning, ice, a breeze, very cold beer, and shorts. All these things give me that comforting feeling of home, as does that wild heat. Home is both a place and a feeling and I have been thinking about that a lot lately. The last couple months I have completely redecorated and reorganized my house. New interior paint, new carpets on the hardwood, new orgaization and style. It need a change, and it feels so good- it is my little sanctuary now. My house had been neglected for longer than I want to say and now is all shined up and happy again. So, I am happily going to be home for the summer in my little nest with beers, popsicles, pets, and friends chilling out with these good house vibes. Cheers to summer and to having places to call home wherever they are.
